Can ākonga enrolled in Te Kura or another online school attend SAHC events?
Yes! SAHC welcomes any whānau doing “school” at home.
Can I join SAHC if I do not live in South Auckland?
Yes, but please note our events take place in South Auckland.
Do you have regular social meetups?
No, but you can find a list of social meetup groups in the South and nearby East Auckland areas here.
Can I join SAHC if I have child under six years/do not yet have an exemption from the Ministry of Education?
Yes, if you are an intending homeschooler.
Can my child’s younger sibling(s) attend SAHC events?
Of course! We try to make provisions for younger ones at our events wherever possible. Please note that supervision of all tamariki remains the responsibility of their parent or kaitiaki at all times, in accordance with our terms and conditions.
Why do you charge a $21 membership fee?
$20 per whānau per year covers the cost of venue hire and materials for core events. $1 covers payment processing fees.
Can I attend SAHC events if I am not a member of SAHC?
Mostly yes, but there will be an entry fee if you are not a SAHC member. If an event is strictly members-only due to venue size restrictions, it will be clearly posted in the event information.
Is SAHC an incorporated society?
No.
What are online events?
Online events are SAHC events run via Facebook and/or Instagram.
Can SAHC help me with my exemption application?
No, but we can help you find a person or group who can. If you are new to homeschooling we recommend visiting the National Council of Home Educators New Zealand (NCHENZ).
